Puppy Stages Life Cycle
The Pups are Born
Puppies are born blind and deaf. Both ears and eyes are shut. Their experiences are entirely through touch and smell.
Development Milestones
Puppies eyes and ears open. They are able to hear and begin to imitate the sounds they hear from their mother. Their sharp little puppy teeth also start to show. They begin to take their clumsy steps and have a sense of independence. This is their beginning stage of socialization where they learn from their mom and siblings.
Learning & Socialization
Puppies develop control over their bladder and bowel movements. They learn to leave their sleeping area before relieving themselves. They start to sample solid food as their mother’s milk production starts to slow down. Puppy begins to explore and learn to bond with people and interact with other pets. (You will want to make sure these pups are also vaccinated and had gone through their vet checks and not be exposed to anything).
Coordination & Weaning
Puppy has developed the physical coordination and muscle control necessary to begin house-training. Muscles continue to develop and understands how to and where to properly relieve himself. At 8-12 weeks, puppy is fully weaned and ready to leave their canine birth family and go to their new homes. Puppies at this age need a lot of encouragement and positivity to keep them from becoming anxious adults.
Obedience & Instincts
Puppy is settling in to his new home and bonding with his new family. Pup is ready to begin basic obedience training. Dominance and submission is becoming visible. He is starting to figure out where he fits in the social order of the household. The fear stage becomes curiosity and he begins to be more independent and assertive.
Teething and Chewing, Spaying and Neutering
Puppies chewing begins as his adult teeth start coming around. Providing chew toys can help prevent him from satisfying his urge to chew on rugs, shoes or furniture. In order to prevent the effects of hormones causing disruptive behavior, Spay or Neuter your pup between 4-6 months of age.
Boundaries and Maturity
Adolescent stage begins and is settled into his grown-up personality. Pup becomes more independent, establishes dominance and becomes territorial. They will also push their boundaries and challenge the authority of their human. They typically develop the emotional maturity and temperament of an adult dog. They may continue to exhibit puppy behavior like chewing and nipping.
It is important for you to teach your puppies proper behaviors. This will help them to learn at an early age how to get along in your household. Regular exercises and training is important to their development!
